Policy Update Reminder

Changes to IDP Effective April 1, 2019

Choice's Internet Distribution Policy (IDP) is designed to help ensure that all Choice branded hotels are well positioned across the distribution landscape. This includes taking steps to help drive reservations through more profitable direct channels, using professional photography, and promoting your hotel's presence on social media sites. Complying with the IDP is critical to our efforts to help you strategically position your hotel across all distribution channels. As the industry changes, we continue to update the IDP and are making some changes to the policy's noncompliance fee structure, effective April 1, 2019.

Maintaining Rate Parity

One of the key components of the IDP requires that you maintain rate parity for publicly available rates on all Choice distribution channels, including proprietary brand sites (e.g., ChoiceHotels.com) and approved third-party sites. This helps promote our ongoing book direct campaign, which promises your guests that when they book through Choice's direct channels, they will always receive the "Lowest Price, Guaranteed."

New IDP Noncompliance Escalation Structure

Choice regularly checks all distribution platforms to ensure that your hotel's rates remain in parity. Under the current IDP, if you are found to be in violation of the policy, you are charged a $150 noncompliance fee per channel, per day.
Beginning April 1, 2019, we are adding a noncompliance escalation structure, which includes:
A warning for your first offense and a four-day cure period, per quarter. The cure period allows you four full days after the warning to remediate the violation without being subject to noncompliance fees. Under the new structure, fees will gradually increase for repeat offenders. The new noncompliance structure will reset each quarter of the calendar year. All IDP violations will follow the new escalation structure.

We're Here to Help

Between now and March 31, 2019, the current IDP remains in effect, and you will continue to be assessed a $150 noncompliance fee for each violation. We will also provide a monthly summary of the charges for the same violations that would be assessed once the updated policy is in place. Please note that if you do not have any violations, you will not receive the monthly summary.

Avoid Penalties - Review the IDP

You can avoid these fees. Remember that participating in third-party sites' promotions, flash sales, last minute deals, matching Choice member rates, distributing hotel photography to unapproved third parties, and using third-party booking engines are all examples of IDP violations that are subject to noncompliance fees. Visit your brand page on ChoiceCentral.com to review the IDP.
If you have any questions, please refer to the FAQs posted on ChoiceCentral.com. You can also contact your Area Director and/or Revenue Manager for any further questions.
